Wii Mini is now Available for $99 in Canada, Lacks Online Capabilities

After all those rumors that we have been hearing from so long about a mini motion sensor based console from Nintendo has finally announced today. The new Wii Mini console will exclusively available in Canada only, however the console will later release in other territories, for CA$99 from December 7. This new console is a smaller version of the award winning console Wii from Nintendo.

The new console lacks the ability to play games online with your friends just to keep the prices down under the 100 bucks mark. Though it is also obvious if a mini version of any product comes into the market then its most likely the company will either reduce the size or features to drop down the price compared to its original version. For instance, Apple released iPad mini and reduced the screen size to approx 8 inches however the original iPad has a 10-inch larger and sharper display.

As earlier mentioned, the new Wii Mini lacks the internet capabilities that means no online gaming and no streaming media. That’s not the only thing that this new Wii Mini lacks, there will also be no GameCube backward compatibility as well. Though what you will get for your 100 Canadian dollars is a new black Wii Mini console, a matching Wii Remote Plus and a nunchuk with the sensor bar, power adapter and a composite cable. However, if you need an HDTV component cable then you will have to buy it separately. Nintendo said that Wii Mini will be able to play 1400 disc based Wii games and the company will be closely monitoring the sales of their new smaller and cheaper console to decide if they want to expand it to other territories or not.

Google is Eying Self-Branded Chromebooks, Says Report

Google was once used only as a search engine and now almost every person who uses the Internet also uses one of the Google’s services. Google is now not just limited to Internet services and software, Google has also stepped up in to the hardware as well and their very own Nexus line of devices has achieved a very high status.  However, Google only designs the hardware and then manufactured by other well reputed manufacturers. Google now also own the Motorola mobility, but surprisingly Google didn’t chose its own company to manufacture either of their newly released nexus devices, Nexus 4 and Nexus 10 that is manufactured by LG and Samsung respectively. Google also has a laptop series as well that has been so far designed by Google and co-branded by Samsung and Acer, known as Chromebook that runs on Google’s cloud based Chrome OS.

But now after designing of Nexus line, search giant is now thinking to jump into hardware production. According to a report from The China Times, Google has ordered the components for a new series of self-branded Chromebooks. So this time Google will not only be designing the Chromebook but also will be manufacturing the Chromebook. The report also claims that Google will be relying on the a Taiwan based electronics company to manufacture the new Chromebooks. Now the question arises here that what will a Google made Chromebook look like and what will be the specs? For now, the report hasn’t revealed anything about the specs and you will have to wait to find out.

If this report proved to be true then Google will be up against its OEM partners, Samsung and Acer, which could make them angry. Similar sort of thing happened earlier this year when Microsoft decided to produce Windows 8 powered Surface tablets. Though for now the current Chromebook manufacturers have least to worry about as according to another report, Google has only ordered a small amount of Chromebooks and Google will be testing it internally with no intention to sell them ever to public. But apart from this report, self branded Google Chromebooks makes a lot of sense as this would place Chrome OS up against Windows 8. And if this self branded Chromebook project becomes successful like the Nexus then Google might start to think about other Google hardware products as well.

Samsung has Sold 5 Million Galaxy Note II units in 2 Months

Exactly two months ago Samsung released Galaxy Note II, which is actually a hybrid between smartphone and a tablet PC. According to Samsung, so far 20 millions units of Galaxy Note II have been shipped so far and the South Korean electronic giants predicts that they could reach to 20 million in future if the sales kept going at this pace.

Samsung Galaxy Note’s successor comes with a 5.5 inch display that is just 0.5 inches bigger than its predecessor but comes with better specs and packed with a 1.5 GHz quad core processor with 2 GB of RAM. It also has a 64GB internal storage and an SD card slot that supports up to hefty 128 GB. Samsung Galaxy Note II also features a much more improved Stylus that is perhaps the Galaxy Note’s main thing.

Looks like a recent ongoing patent battle between Samsung and Apple hasn’t yet affected the sales of Samsung smartphones as both of Samsung’s powerhouses Galaxy S III and Galaxy Note II still growing stronger day by day.

Android 4.2 Jelly Bean for your Samsung Nexus S

Google has recently rolled out Android 4.2 updates for Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 7 but surprisingly left out Nexus S. Despite having a 1GHz single core processor and a half GB of RAM, the device has still managed to do fairly well. The Samsung Nexus S may have been abandoned by Google but developers don’t seem to agree with the search giants and has finally pushed out the Android 4.2 for Samsung Nexus S.

Thanks to XDA Senior Member knzo who actually released the latest Android 4.2 version for Nexus S devices and proved that the Nexus S has got still some juice in it. However, it’s still hard to say what features are working and what not as it is still under development so you can expect several bugs that will surely get fixed with time. Though in general, the response was quite positive and no developer has yet reported any major issue. Some users have reported some minor issue with the camera and the new gesture typing keyboard that came as a default in Android 4.2 but this particular keyboard problem can be fixed easily by installing the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean keyboard from the Google Play Store. Some other users have also reported some issues while flashing Google apps, but as long as the Play Store app is installed in the ROM by default, these can be installed through the app store easily and anytime. So if you aren’t patient enough to test out 4.2 on your Nexus S device then check out this thread to get detailed information and download links.

AT&T Selling Refurbished 16GB iPhone 5 for just $99

If you are planning on buying the latest iPhone 5 but not being able to because of its price tag then this is probably your chance to have a go at it. No, this is not a Black Friday deal or a holiday season shopping discount from Apple but it is from AT&T. AT&T is selling the refurbished iPhone 5 units for as low as $99. Excited? Read more after a jump.

The Texas-based carrier has listed refurbished Apple iPhone 5 models starting from $99 for 16GB unit, 32GB unit for $199 and 64GB unit for $299. The phones are available in both black and white colors, however there some restrictions for you to actually avail the low priced refurbished iPhone 5s. You need to be either eligible for an upgrade or a new customer and sign up a two year contract with AT&T, so if you fulfill all the requirements then you probably shouldn’t wait to get yours.

It is quite unlike that the refurbished iPhone 5 has showed up in the market just after two months of its release in September. When the iPhone 5 released it was expected that the refurbished units will hit the market, not at least before January. It is also been said that the refurbished ones will cost just $50 less than its original price, which is near $600 for 16GB model. So considering the original price of the iPhone 5, $99 price with a 2 year contract with AT&T is something that you shouldn’t miss at all.
